2023 US coal production is expected to exceed 570 million short tons

On July 11, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) released the latest "Short -term Energy Outlook" report that in 2023, US coal production is expected to decrease by 4.19%to 572.2 million short tons (519 million tons) in 2022, which is higher than the previous one. The monthly expected value of 559.5 million was short tons.
The report predicts that the US coal production in 2024 will drop by 19.6%to 460.3 million short tons, which is lower than the expected value of 478 million tons in the previous January.
In terms of consumption, the report shows that in 2023, the US coal consumption is expected to decrease by 19.94%year -on -year to 410.4 million short tons. Among them, coal consumption in the power industry decreased by 21.05%year -on -year to 371 million short tons, and coal consumption in retail and other industries was expected to be 23.5 million short tons, a year -on -year decrease of 12%.
In 2024, the US coal consumption was expected to be 397.4 million tons, a decrease of 3.17%year -on -year. Among them, coal consumption in the power industry is expected to be 358 million tons, and coal consumption in retail and other industries is 22.2 million tons.
The "Short -term Energy Outlook" report shows that in 2023, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions of US energy -related energy -related carbon dioxide is expected to decrease 3.5%compared with 2022. Among them, coal -related carbon dioxide emissions are expected to decrease by nearly 20%year -on -year. In 2024, energy -related carbon dioxide emissions are expected to decrease by 0.31%from 2023.
In terms of exports, the report shows that the US coal export volume in 2023 is expected to be 95.7 million tons, an increase of 11.28%from 2022. Among them, the export volume of power coal is expected to be 45.8 million tons, an increase of 15.95%year -on -year; the export volume of metallurgical coal is expected to be 49.9 million short tons, an increase of 7.31%year -on -year.
In 2024, US coal exports are expected to be 103.4 million tons, an increase of 8.05%year -on -year. Among them, the export volume of power coal is expected to be 48.3 million tons, and the export volume of metallurgical coal is 55 million tons.
