Potash industry accelerates "going out", many leading enterprises overseas "looking for potassium"

In fact, it is not only Salt Lake, but also many leading potash companies have been increasing their overseas potash layout in the past few years.
According to public information, in September 2021, the first 1 million tons of potash project was completed in 17 months, and reached production in March 2022, becoming the first million tons of potash project outside China. It became the largest Chinese company in Southeast Asia in terms of potash production scale. The company's third 1 million ton potash project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2023, and aims to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tons by 2025.
In addition, on February 17, this year, two wholly-owned subsidiaries of Zangge Mining, Chengdu Chuanliao Juyuan Industrial Company Limited, Zangge Mining International Pte. According to the agreement, the company's exploration concessions in Saitani County and Bayo County, Vientiane, Laos cover an area of 198.97 square kilometers and 199.29 square kilometers respectively, and the discovered mineral resources include halloysite and potash salt mines, etc. The total potassium chloride resources are expected to be about 600 million tons, with a preliminary planning capacity of 2 million tons/year in the first phase.
The initial planning for the first phase of production capacity is 2 million tons/year. Goldlink fertilizer analyst Dai Li told the Securities Daily that Laos has rich mineral deposits and good resource endowment conditions, suitable for large-scale development of potash projects; shallow depth of deposits, low mining costs and low local labor; at the same time, Laos is close to the Southeast Asian market, which can help solve the problem of capacity consumption.
The main reason for potash enterprises to actively "go out" is that nearly half of the domestic potash resources depend on imports, and the degree of external dependence is high.
"China is the world's largest potash fertilizer demand country, but the domestic potash reserves are relatively low and sustainable supply capacity is insufficient, especially the lack of soluble potassium resources." Therefore, it is urgent for the potash industry to look for potassium overseas, said Dai Li.
