MMA production capacity shows a continuous increasing trend, with unequal supply and demand growth rates
Growth rate of production capacity for two processes
The capacity growth rate of ACH method shows an increasing trend, while the capacity growth rate of C4 method shows a decreasing trend. Specifically, the three companies that were put into operation in 2018 adopted the C4 method for MMA production, with a total production capacity of 150000 tons, and no ACH method equipment was put into operation; By 2022, among the six newly launched MMA production enterprises, only one enterprise will use the C4 method for MMA production with a production capacity of 80000 tons, while the other five MMA enterprises will use the ACH method for production with a production capacity of 475000 tons. Currently, only one of the seven newly put into operation MMA units in 2023-2024 adopts the C4 process.
The main reason for the difference in production capacity growth rate between the two processes is the impact of cost factors. Since 2021, the profit of C4 method MMA production has continued to decline. From 2022 to 2023, C4 method suffered severe losses, with an average annual profit loss of over 2000 yuan per ton. As a result, the production progress of C4 method MMA has been suppressed. However, the profit of ACH method MMA production is still acceptable, and under the upstream acrylonitrile production, ACH method has been widely used for MMA production in recent years.
From the perspective of upstream and downstream supporting facilities
Currently, among the 20 MMA production enterprises, 13 are using the ACH method and 7 are using the C4 method. There are 5 downstream PMMA production enterprises, accounting for 25%.
ACH method supporting upstream situation
Among the 13 ACH MMA production enterprises, 4 are equipped with upstream acetone units, accounting for 30.77%; There are 9 enterprises equipped with upstream acrylonitrile units, accounting for 69.23%; The hydrogen cyanide in the raw materials produced by ACH method mainly comes from the re production of acrylonitrile, so the start of MMA production by ACH method is often affected by the start of supporting acrylonitrile equipment, and the cost situation is mainly affected by the price of raw material acetone.
Upstream situation of supporting C4 method
Among the 7 C4 MMA production enterprises, 4 enterprises are equipped with upstream isobutene/tert butanol, accounting for 57.14%. Due to force majeure factors, 2 out of the 7 C4 MMA production enterprises will shut down their MMA units from 2022.
Changes in industry capacity utilization rate
The rapid increase in supply corresponds to the slow increase in demand, and under the unequal growth rate of supply and demand, the industry's supply and demand pattern is gradually shifting from supply shortage to oversupply. The operation of domestic MMA plants is also under pressure and limited, and the overall capacity utilization rate of the industry is showing a downward trend.
JIN DUN CHEMICAL has built a special (meth) acrylic monomer manufacturing base in ZHEJIANG province. This makes sure the stable supply of HEMA, HPMA, HEA, HPA, GMA with high level quality. Our special acrylate monomers are widely used for thermosetting acrylic resins, crosslinkable emulsion polymers, acrylate anaerobic adhesive, two-component acrylate adhesive, solvent acrylate adhesive, emulsion acrylate adhesive, paper finishing agent and painting acrylic resins in adhesive. We have also developed the new and special (meth) acrylic monomers and derivatives. Such as the fluorinated acrylate monomers, It can be widely used in coating leveling agent, paints, inks, photosensitive resins, optical materials, fiber treatment, modifier for plastic or rubber field. We are aiming to be the top supplier in the field of special acrylate monomers, to share our rich experience with better quality products and professional service.
