The self-sufficiency rate of expanded products in China's butadiene industry has significantly increased
1) Changes in the import and export trends of butadiene between China, the United States, and South Korea, with an increase in exports from China and South Korea
According to data statistics from the past five years, the total import volume of China, the United States, and South Korea has exceeded one million tons. The total import volume from China over the past five years was 1.5933 million tons, while the total import volume from the United States over the past five years was 1.1348 million tons. The overall trend has not shown a significant decline. Although South Korea's total import volume over the past five years has reached a high of 1.7367 million tons, it has shown a clear downward trend. In terms of export trends, China and South Korea have seen significant increases in export volume in the past five years, with compound annual growth rates of 108.58% and 20.64%, respectively.
With the rapid expansion of China's butadiene industry in recent years, the self-sufficiency rate of products has significantly increased. However, at the same time, downstream industries such as butadiene rubber and ABS have also seen a significant increase in demand. Therefore, imports have remained relatively high, while export enthusiasm has increased, resulting in a significant increase in export volume.
2) Competitive export market, seeking business opportunities through differences in import sources among countries
As is well known, although China's butadiene exports have significantly increased, the export destination market is mainly aimed at South Korea, and the market is relatively single. From the perspective of the import structure of butadiene from South Korea and the United States, South Korea's butadiene imports are mainly from Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, with India, Japan, Malaysia, and other Southeast Asian and Northeast Asian regions accounting for a significant proportion. The majority of butadiene imports from the United States come from regions such as Canada and Brazil in the Americas. Meanwhile, Europe is a major exporter.
