Eliminating coal-fired power plants in the United States and increasing total natural gas power generation
According to the US Energy Information Administration's monthly generator inventory report, 10 new natural gas power plants will be put into operation by 2023. The total capacity of these 10 factories is 6.8 gigawatts.
The EIA also predicts that six other gas power plants will be connected to the grid by the end of this year, bringing a total of 8.6 gigawatts of installed capacity to the grid.
The EIA stated that many of these 16 factories are concentrated in natural gas producing areas along the Gulf of Mexico coast and the Appalachian region. Three large factories in Florida and Michigan, as well as two small factories in Colorado and North Dakota, are about to go live.
The third small factory is being built in western Texas.
According to the EIA report, more than half of the newly built simple cycle gas turbine factories in 2022 and 2023 are located in Texas.
Natural gas factories are rapidly increasing their operations to cope with changes in demand or intermittent scarcity of renewable resources.
The EIA also predicts that 7.7 gigawatts of natural gas power generation capacity will be added in 2024 and 2025.
