Chinese Coatings Continue to Lead the World's' Engine '

2024/8/23

China remains the world's largest coatings market and continues to serve as an important 'engine' for the development of the world's coatings industry. On August 6th, at the 2024 Asia Pacific International Coatings Industry Development Conference held in Shanghai, Liu Pujun, President of the China Coatings Industry Association, made a global positioning for the current Chinese coatings industry. Experts attending the meeting believe that since the beginning of this year, the paint industry has experienced both reasonable growth in "quantity" and effective improvement in "quality", with vast opportunities for "advancement".

According to Liu Pujun, from January to June this year, the total production of coatings in China was 17.556 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2%; The total revenue of the main business was 190.63 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.4%; The total profit was 11.23 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.6%. Although there is still a certain gap from the target set at the beginning of the year, the overall trend is still positive.

Liu Pujun pointed out that from the perspective of growth trend, the basic trend of China's economy continuing to rebound and improve in the second half of this year will not change, and the economic activity of downstream coatings will continue to increase. Especially in industrial related fields such as automobiles, ships, new energy, transportation equipment, and electronic information, the demand for coatings will continue to rise. In addition, the demand for wood coatings and container coatings will also rebound strongly. It is expected that the overall production growth rate of the paint industry will reach around 4% in 2024, the growth rate of main business revenue can reach around 2%, and the average profit growth rate is expected to remain above 8%, achieving positive growth in the three major economic indicators.

Hou Baorong, academician of the CAE Member, also said that, as the largest paint production and consumption country, China has ranked first in the world's paint production for 15 consecutive years. At present, China's paint production accounts for one-third of the world's total, making the Asia Pacific region an important growth pole for the development of the global paint industry.

The attending representatives believe that in order for Chinese coatings to play the role of an "engine" well, it is not only necessary to seek big goals, but also to strive for strength in order to output strong power. Hou Baorong pointed out that the Chinese coatings industry is facing inherent challenges such as weak technological innovation capabilities, arduous tasks of green and low-carbon development, urgent acceleration of layout and structural adjustments, and urgent transformation of market service models. The industry needs to embark on a new path of innovation, high-end, differentiated, and green low-carbon development under the guidance of technological innovation in the new situation and challenges.

Faced with the sustained high-speed growth of the Asian market and fierce competition in the global coatings market, Fang Guoqin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Sankeshu Coatings Co., Ltd., emphasized that Chinese coating enterprises should continue to focus on promoting the transformation of the industry towards high-end, intelligent, and green industries, strengthen standard guidance and quality support, and promote the industry to shift from price competition to value competition. At the same time, coating companies need to adjust their strategic structure, continuously innovate in green and low-carbon technologies, high-end industrial coatings and other fields, actively plan and layout in the international market, and promote the green and high-quality development of the coating industry. Gu Yu, General Manager of Wanhua Chemical's water-based resin, also pointed out that the coating industry should develop towards green and environmentally friendly, functional, energy-saving and efficient, low-cost, and sustainable directions.

In addition, the role of the world's "engine" determines that "going out" has changed from an "optional" to a "mandatory" option. The attending representatives proposed that as China's coatings industry enters a new stage of globalization, the industry should use the "going out" strategy of the entire industry chain, leverage its scale advantages, and seek new growth points in the global coatings market. At the meeting, Pang Guanglian, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and Deputy Secretary General of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, and Secretary General of the International Capacity Cooperation Enterprise Alliance of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry, shared the cooperation opportunities for the industry to jointly build the "the Belt and Road".

JIN DUN CHEMICAL has built a special (meth) acrylic monomer manufacturing base in ZHEJIANG province. This makes sure the stable supply of   HEMAHPMAHEAHPAGMA with high level quality. Our special acrylate monomers are widely used for thermosetting acrylic resins, crosslinkable emulsion polymers, acrylate anaerobic adhesive, two-component acrylate adhesive, solvent acrylate adhesive, emulsion acrylate adhesive, paper finishing agent and painting acrylic resins in adhesive. We have also developed the new and special (meth) acrylic monomers and derivatives. Such as the fluorinated acrylate monomers, It can be widely used in coating leveling agent, paints, inks, photosensitive resins, optical materials, fiber treatment, modifier for plastic or rubber field. We are aiming to be the top supplier in the field of special acrylate monomers, to share our rich experience with better quality products and professional service.
