China's ammonium sulfate production and export volume maintain an overall growth trend

At present, the total production capacity of ammonium sulfate in the world is 37 million tons/year, with a production capacity of 28.22 million tons and an average unit load of 72.96%. Under the influence of cost pressure, the company's profitability is poor, and the overall operating rate has significantly decreased compared to last year. The production of ammonium sulfate in the world is mainly concentrated in China, North America, Europe, and Japan, with four major regions producing 15.47 million tons/year, 4.25 million tons/year, 7.03 million tons/year, and 705000 tons/year, respectively, accounting for 54.82%, 15.06%, 24.91%, and 2.50% of the world's production. Southeast Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Africa are the main consumption regions of ammonium sulfate in the world, with the consumption of these four regions accounting for 66.4% of the total global consumption. The consumption countries of ammonium sulfate are relatively scattered, with Brazil being the world's largest consumer of ammonium sulfate, accounting for approximately 17.86% of the world's total consumption.

There are over 400 ammonium sulfate production plants in China, and the largest ammonium sulfate producer in China is Fujian Shenyuan New Materials Co., Ltd. with a total production capacity of about 900000 tons/year, followed by Cangzhou Xuyang Chemical Co., Ltd. with a total production capacity of about 675000 tons/year. The main domestic ammonium sulfate production plants are shown in the table below.

Last year, China consumed 3.56 million tons of ammonium sulfate, with a consumption structure mainly consisting of compound fertilizers and direct agriculture. Compound fertilizers accounted for 82%, direct agriculture accounted for 11%, metallurgical rare earth accounted for 4%, and industrial fermentation accounted for 3%.

In recent years, with the continuous production of new ammonium sulfate plants in China, the production capacity of domestic ammonium sulfate has been continuously increasing. In 2022, the production capacity of domestic ammonium sulfate is about 20.89 million tons/year, reaching 15.85 million tons, with an average operating rate of 75.87%. In 2022, the import volume of ammonium sulfate in China was approximately 10000 tons, and the export volume was 12.446 million tons. Therefore, ammonium sulfate is an export-oriented product, with a self-sufficiency rate of 445% for the entire year.

In recent years, China's ammonium sulfate production and export volume have maintained an overall growth trend, with an average annual increase of 7.36% in production and 16.69% in export volume. However, the overall consumption has maintained a slight downward trend, resulting in an increasing trend in the domestic self-sufficiency rate.
