Nitrogen fertilizer methanol technology innovation fruitful new coal gasification capacity continues to increase

According to Gu Zongqin, chairman of China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, in 2022, China's nitrogen fertilizer, methanol industry technology innovation has made positive progress, the proportion of new coal gasification capacity continues to increase, the localization of key equipment and the overall technological level of the device significantly improved.

Gu Zongqin pointed out that the proportion of new coal gasification capacity in China continues to increase. Under the background of "double carbon", the new coal gasification technology with high gasification pressure, large amount of coal cast in a single furnace and high carbon conversion rate has become the first choice for nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industries to carry out upgrading and reconstruction as well as new projects, and it has become the mainstream process, and the production capacity and output of synthetic ammonia and methanol with the new coal gasification technology have been increasing year by year. According to China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, by the end of 2022, the synthetic ammonia production capacity based on bituminous coal (including lignite) as raw material accounted for 54% of the total production capacity, an increase of 11.2% compared with the previous year; the synthetic ammonia production capacity based on anthracite bituminous coal as raw material for intermittent coal gasification was reduced by 14.2% compared with the previous year. Driven by the expanding application of new coal gasification technology, China's methanol production capacity continued to grow, of which the coal methanol production capacity using continuous coal gasification technology grew to 72.28 million tons/year, accounting for 72% of the total production capacity, an increase of 6% over the previous year.

The large-scale and centralization of plant size also further improved, becoming an important direction for industrial development. According to the Association's statistics, by the end of 2022, there were 210 synthetic ammonia producers in China, of which the scale of synthetic ammonia production capacity of 500,000 tons/year and above accounted for 43.8% of the total, an increase of 5.6% over the previous year. A number of large enterprises (groups) with a capacity volume of over one million tons in the nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industries are leading the development of the industry.

Gu Zongqin stressed that over the past year, the localization of key equipment and the overall technical level of the device has been significantly improved. In terms of coal gasification technology, the new and efficient domestic coal gasification technology has been continuously introduced, iteratively upgraded and put into practical application one after another. According to the Association's statistics, by the end of 2022, the synthetic ammonia output using domestically produced pulverized coal gasifier, multi-nozzle gasifier and multi-purpose slurry will reach more than 20 million tons in total, accounting for about 70% of the synthetic ammonia output of new coal gasification technology.

In recent years, many new breakthroughs have been made in gasifier innovation. First, the development and demonstration project of large-scale dry pulverized coal gasifier with 3500 tons of coal per day and 6.5MPa in Ruixing Group has been successfully put into operation, and the cumulative operation time has reached 620 days, marking the success of the development of the pulverized coal gasifier of the world's largest level and the highest gasification pressure, and it will be recorded in the history of the development of coal gasification; secondly, the gasifier of JINHUA with radiant waste boiler has been successfully popularized, and it has already been popularized in 22 sets of production units, with good application effect; thirdly, the gasifier with radiation waste boiler is successfully promoted. devices, with good application results; Third, Hebei Tianyuan Chemical's circulating fluidized bed + fluidized bed coupling gasification plant (with a scale of about 180,000 tons of ammonia) has been in operation for more than two years cumulatively, providing a new way for the green upgrading and transformation of small- and medium-sized nitrogen fertilizer enterprises; Fourth, the coal gasifier has also made new progress in burning raw coal with high ash and high ash melting point. Aerospace furnace and Jinhua furnace have achieved industrialized successful practice in burning raw coal with high ash melting point (higher than 1450℃), and Colin furnace has achieved remarkable performance in burning high ash coal; Fifthly, there is a breakthrough in the application of coal gasification technology in environmental protection management. At present, the gasification technology of multi-dimensional slurry, aerospace furnace, Jinhua furnace and other gasification technologies have been applied industrially in the synergistic treatment of gasification and hazardous waste, exploring new paths for the green development of coal gasification technology.

With the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Academy of Environmental Sciences and other relevant ministries and units, and through the joint efforts of the whole industry, the fixed-bed atmospheric batch coal gasification gas scrubbing and cooling water system was transformed into a closed system, and the problem of air pollutant emissions, such as phenol-containing cyanine-ammonia, was solved, which greatly alleviated the risk of shutdown faced by the traditional atmospheric fixed-bed enterprises. In addition, the development of high-efficiency fertilizer has also achieved remarkable results." Gu Zongqin said.
