The world's first offshore hydrogen production project has started producing the first green hydrogen

2023/6/30

Lhyfe is testing an offshore hydrogen production platform called Sealhyfe in France that began producing its first hydrogen on June 20 after being towed last month to the SEMV-REV offshore test site connected to BW Ideol's floating wind turbine Floatgen.

Sealhyfe expects to be able to produce up to 400 kg of hydrogen per day.

After eight months of testing at a terminal in the Port of Saint-Nazaire starting in September 2022, the platform has entered a second phase of testing focused on producing hydrogen in offshore conditions as the commissioning milestone is reached.

Sealhyfe includes a 1 MW electrolyzer supplied by Plug and installed on GEPS Techno's WAVEGEM floating platform, which has been redesigned to stabilize the offshore production unit.

During eight months of testing in port, the platform underwent benchmarking as well as technical and system optimization. Through the first phase of testing, Lhyfe also developed the remote management site software and algorithm building blocks needed to enable Sealhyfe to operate fully autonomously.

The company says it has updated the operational specifications for all of its land-based and offshore sites following the first test phase, and that all equipment will benefit from the operational optimizations of the Sealhyfe pilot program.

At the SEM-REV offshore test site in Centrale Nantes, operated by the OPEN-C Foundation and located 20 kilometers off the French coast in the Atlantic Ocean, Sealhyfe is connected to the test site's subsea hub via an umbilical cable specifically designed for hydrogen applications.

According to Lhyfe, the system was restarted and operational in just 48 hours after the platform was towed to connect to the hub.

The company will now reappear at the dock for multiple tests to compare the results, and then additional offshore-specific tests will be conducted.

To achieve reliable hydrogen production in an offshore environment, Lhyfe plans to develop an operational capability that will include managing the platform's operations and environmental stresses as well as validating green and renewable hydrogen production software and algorithms.

JIN DUN CHEMICAL has built a special (meth) acrylic monomer manufacturing base in ZHEJIANG province. This makes sure the stable supply of HEMA, HPMA, HEA, HPA, GMA with high level quality. Our special acrylate monomers are widely used for thermosetting acrylic resins, crosslinkable emulsion polymers, acrylate anaerobic adhesive, two-component acrylate adhesive, solvent acrylate adhesive, emulsion acrylate adhesive, paper finishing agent and painting acrylic resins in adhesive. We have also developed the new and special (meth) acrylic monomers and derivatives. Such as the fluorinated acrylate monomers, It can be widely used in coating leveling agent, paints, inks, photosensitive resins, optical materials, fiber treatment, modifier for plastic or rubber field. We are aiming to be the top supplier in the field of special acrylate monomers, to share our rich experience with better quality products and professional service.
