How to Make Natural Strawberry Food Coloring at Home

Food coloring is a common ingredient used to add color and appeal to various foods and beverages, such as cakes, cookies, frostings, icings, candies, drinks, and more. Instructions

Wash and hull fresh strawberries or measure out freeze-dried strawberries. You will need about 1 cup of fresh strawberries or 1/4 cup of freeze-dried strawberries for every 1/4 cup of water.
Place the strawberries and water in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. You can also mash them with a fork if you don’t have a blender or food processor.
Strain the strawberry puree through a fine-mesh strainer into a small saucepan. Press the pulp with a spoon to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the pulp or save it for another use.
Bring the strawberry juice to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer until it reduces by half, stirring occasionally. This will concentrate the color and flavor of the strawberry juice.
Let the strawberry juice cool completely, then transfer it to a glass jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Use the strawberry food coloring as you would use any other food coloring. Add it gradually to your food or beverage until you achieve your desired color and taste. The more you add, the darker and stronger the color and flavor will be.

You can use other red berries, such as raspberries, cranberries, cherries, or pomegranates, to make natural red food coloring instead of strawberries. The process is similar, but the color and flavor may vary slightly depending on the type of berry you use.
